The large houses in Leipzig have extended the closing time until January 9th. TAG24 asked how things are going in Dresden.

Leipzig / Dresden – the Saxon Corona Emergency Ordinance, which among other things orders the closure of all cultural institutions, has a time range until December 12th. The big houses in Leipzig have for their part extended the closing time beyond the ordinance to January 9th. We asked how it is in Dresden therefore is ordered.

“We have always known that a worsening corona situation requires further measures and are now taking these into account,” said the director of the Leipzig Opera, Ulf Schirmer (62), explaining the step, combined with the hope “of experiencing music theater together again soon and to make feelings and emotions tangible in the togetherness. ”

The waiver is borne by the opera, Gewandhaus, drama and theater of the Junge Welt. It applies to own events, not necessarily for billeting.

In this way, the people of Leipzig anticipate a decision by the Free State, which, according to the current state of affairs, will not decide before December 9th whether the lockdown, known as the “breakwater”, will be extended or not.

“A precautionary closure of the Saxon State Theaters and the Dresden State Art Collections beyond December 12 is currently not planned,” said the Ministry of Culture’s reply.

The situation with regard to urban cultural institutions is not so clear-cut. There they have long been thinking about extending the closure period.

Culture Mayor Annekatrin Klepsch (44, left) tells us that she is in discussion with the city directors on the question of a longer-term closure at the turn of the year.

The fact is that “we cannot get out of the situation without increasing the vaccination rate, boosters, testing and masks,” said Klepsch: “We are monitoring the political discussion and developments and will be re-evaluating at the beginning of next week.”
