Preliminary result first municipality: many post votes invalid

Initial results of the postal voting indicate that voters still have difficulties with this new voting method: the count of the municipality of Bernheze shows that about 8.5 percent of the submitted postal votes are invalid. In regular elections, about 0.3 percent of the vote is usually invalid.

There are no reports of censuses from other municipalities yet. Rotterdam has announced that it will only come up with figures on Wednesday. The Electoral Council did not receive any questions from municipalities about incorrect votes either. The Ministry of the Interior has not yet responded to the first figures.

Voters aged 70 and older are allowed to vote by post this year because of corona. A total of 4810 people were allowed to vote by post in Bernheze. 1688 70+ did that. 143 of those votes are invalid, it now appears.

The main reason a vote was declared invalid is because the ballot card and ballot paper were in the same envelope, which is not the intention. The counters are not allowed to open the envelopes because a vote must be kept secret.
