SC Freiburg II: structure, talent and Vermeij
10 wins, 35 points, 4th place in the table – anyone who thinks that SC Freiburg’s second team is a disorganized, very young squad coming to the Lößnitztal is terribly mistaken. The eleven of head coach Thomas Stamm made another significant step forward in their second season in the 3rd division. They act more structured defensively and are mercilessly effective on offense. Our violets had to learn that the hard way in the first leg. Outnumbered and behind, the young team didn’t give up even when the temperature was over 30 °C, kept the game tight, refined a counterattack to equalize and were rewarded in the end with a point.
However, it was a player who did not train at all in Freiburg who scored the game-winning goals: Vincent Vermeijer. The 28-year-old Dutchman has been playing in the 3rd division since 2019 and was already on the ball for MSV Duisburg before his time in Freiburg. He was directly involved in 57 goals in 103 league games to date. With nine goals, he is the most dangerous target player and executor of the young Breisgau Boys.
