Preliminary Investigation Launched for Involuntary Homicides and Injuries Following Fatal Fire in Wintzenheim

This Friday, August 11, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced that it had opened a preliminary investigation for “involuntary homicides and injuries aggravated by the breach of an obligation of safety or prudence provided for by law or regulation” after the fire that killed eleven people in Wintzenheim (Haut-Rhin), Wednesday.

The Colmar public prosecutor’s office had initially opened an investigation but relinquished it in favor of that of Paris, “in view of the number of victims spread over the national territory and the extent of the investigations to come”.

The investigation will aim to determine the causes of the fire.
