Pregnant women will receive a prescription for fruit and vegetables in Strasbourg

The Strasbourg town hall wants to take care of its pregnant women and their newborn babies. Faced with the harmful effects demonstrated by the World Health Organization of endocrine disruptors on pregnancies and child development, pregnant women will receive a “green prescription” by the end of 2022, according to information fromStrasbourg NewsMonday, March 21.

This prescription will allow them on the one hand to participate in collective meetings during which they will receive advice to limit their exposure to endocrine disruptors. On the other hand, they will have access, once a week during their pregnancy, to baskets of fruit and vegetables from organic farming, informs Actu Strasbourg. The whole device is free.

800 women in the first year

Endocrine disruptors are molecules capable of interfering with our hormonal system. According to the Deputy Mayor in charge of Public and Environmental Health, Alexandre Feltz, interviewed by Actu Lyon, they “are unfortunately massively present in our environments and have a major impact on pregnant women, but also on future children: increased risk of diabetes, obesity, neurocognitive disorders…”.

The prescription will be given to those who wish, without income conditions, by their general practitioner, their midwife or their gynecologist. The first shipments should be made from September. According to Alexandre Feltz, nearly 800 women should benefit from it in the first year.
