Pregnant women seem to be at greater risk if they are infected with the delta variant of the coronavirus. This is apparent from the hospital admissions in the Netherlands in recent weeks. That is more pregnant women, who were in good health before they became infected.

In our northern neighbors there are a striking number of pregnant women with the delta variant in hospital. “These women have no underlying suffering. Yet they become very ill,” says professor of obstetrics Kitty Bloemenkamp (UMC Utrecht) against the
AD .
“In the worst case scenario, their baby is delivered even earlier, while the mother is on a ventilator in intensive care.” There were four pregnant women with corona in the UMC Utrecht last week. According to Bloemenkamp, more pregnant women with corona have also been admitted to other Dutch hospitals in recent weeks, some of whom are in intensive care. This trend has also been visible in other countries for some time. For example, in the United Kingdom, where the delta variant of the coronavirus has already become dominant.
Third vaccination?
Many countries, including France and the United Kingdom, are planning to start additional vaccinations for their populations soon. That would mean a third shot for vulnerable groups, intended to better protect them against mutations of the corona virus. But there is quite a bit of discussion about that. According to many, including the World Health Organization, it is better to send the vaccines that are left over to third world countries. There are often hardly any people vaccinated. If the virus has free rein in those countries for a long time, there is a greater chance of more mutations.
