As a result of non-compliance with internal regulations, “the operation was started with an incorrectly identified patient,” hospital spokeswoman Eva Stoleida Libigerova told CNN Prima News. Idnes news portal clarifiesthat the patient was four months pregnant.
The hospital apologized to the patient who lost her fetus and promised to pay her compensation. “We assured her that we would do everything possible to mitigate the damage as much as possible,” it added. Later press secretary reportedthat the doctors who made the mistake were suspended from work, the hospital is conducting an internal investigation.
The Czech Ministry of Health expressed regret to the injured woman and statedthat they consider the incident an “unforgivable human factor”, the perpetrators of which will be suspended from work.
Czech Police reported, that she began to deal with the incident in Bulovka and went to the hospital, and also published an appeal to both women, asking them to call or come to any police station. A representative of one of the victims later contacted police. Investigators “based on the data received” opened a criminal case on suspicion of causing bodily harm by negligence, reports the police.
