Pregnant and Breastfeeding Mothers No Longer Need a Doctor’s Referral Letter for COVID-19 Vaccination

Liputan6.com, Jakarta If previously pregnant and breastfeeding women were advised to bring a referral letter from a doctor to vaccinate against COVID-19, now this requirement is no longer necessary.

“Currently, a circular has been issued to all medical facility and vaccinators that pregnant and lactating mothers who want vaccines no longer need to ask for a referral letter from a doctor,” said Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology RSIA Bunda Jakarta, Dr. Nana Agustina, SpOG at a press conference on COVID-19 Vaccination for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women with RSIA Mother of Jakarta on Thursday (14/10/21).

So, pregnant women and pregnant women can immediately carry out COVID-19 vaccinations in available places.

It is also important to remember that there are other requirements that pregnant and lactating women need to meet before vaccinating.

“Pregnant and lactating women (requirements for vaccination) are in good health and condition. Among other things, their blood pressure is normal, not high. There are no immune disorders, then there are also no serious infections. Pregnant women sometimes like to be in bad conditions, not healthy. For example with kidney, cancer, it’s not allowed,”

“If you have diabetes but it’s controlled, it’s okay. But if it’s not controlled, you shouldn’t. So in cases of pregnant women who are really healthy and everything is good, we can inject this COVID-19 vaccine,” said Nana.

According to Nana, when pregnant and breastfeeding women want to vaccinate, the most important condition will be seen from the condition of the mother. If the condition is good and safe, then vaccination is safe and allowed to be carried out.

Not only that, COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant women can also only be given when gestational age It’s been 13 weeks. The vaccination period recommended by the Ministry of Health for pregnant women is from 13 to 33 weeks of pregnancy.

“The priority is the mother (if vaccinated), the baby is relatively okay. If the pregnant woman is good, her blood pressure is good, her immune system is good, then she doesn’t have a fever, is not infected with a disease, God willing all can be vaccinated,” said Nana.
