Prefect Brindisi, ‘ready to prevent any threat to the G7’

(ANSA) – BRINDISI, 08 APR – “For the G7 we are in the final rush as regards planning. We are, in fact, in the implementation phase for the reinforcements that will surely arrive and for the official numbers of the delegations”. The prefect of Brindisi, Luigi Carnevale, said this in his first press conference after his appointment on 26 March, in reference to the organization of the G7. The main venue of the world event, from 13th to 15th June, will be Borgo Egnazia, in Fasano, in the province of Brindisi. “Already before going down to Brindisi I had a meeting with friends from the US embassy, with the ambassador’s security advisor. We are in the phase in which – added the prefect – from the planning phase we will put on the ground the exact numbers of both staff who will ensure safety, but also of the delegations. Tomorrow there will also be a meeting in Bari regarding the health aspects, which are important in this case”. “With the commissioner (Giampietro Lionetti, ed.) who is an expert in the field of public order – he continued – we are closing on some initiatives that will serve to monitor all the excitement that may gravitate around this event which represents a showcase at the world, but which can also be experienced by someone as a useful appointment for some not exactly peaceful initiative, and we must prepare ourselves and prevent any form of threat that could be hypothesized”. “This is a very delicate phase. We have reached the final rush of planning but I repeat – he concluded – I must thank the work done by the prefect La Iacona who has been truly capable of weaving together the threads of these meetings up to this moment summit who tore down the well-established planning”.
