Predictions for GERB’s Loss in Key Cities in the Upcoming Local Elections

GERB will lose some of the country’s key cities in the upcoming local elections, including the capital. This is predicted by the former Minister of Internal Affairs and chairman of the “Republicans for Bulgaria” party Tsvetan Tsvetanov in the program “The Day ON AIR”.

“GERB will lose Sofia”, said Tsvetanov categorically, pointing out that the party’s likely candidates for the position are the current chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, Georgi Georgiev, and the chairman of the parliament, Rosen Zhelyazkov.

“I am convinced that Sofia will not be won by GERB, due to the model and this lack of transparency from the last few years,” explained Tsvetanov.
According to him, Varna and Plovdiv are the “key cities” in which change should be sought.

“Everyone is extremely disgusted and bitter that Ivan Portnih is not the mayor of Varna. There are other figures there who have economic interests,” Tsvetanov also said and pointed out that the information was obtained from the media. According to him, Varna was given “a concession to Dido Dunkata”.

The battle in Plovdiv will be interesting, Tsvetanov also predicts. According to him, the party has no prominent leaders there, as Boyko Borisov has lost the trust of the former and current mayors of the city.

“GERB will not have a mayor in Vidin, Ruse, Blagoevgrad, Pernik. In Pazardzhik there will be an interesting intrigue, in Razgrad – also”, pointed out Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

As a former minister of the interior, he also commented on the change of heads of the ODMVR in the country. According to him, it is surprising why the chief of police in Stara Zagora is not among the replaced and hinted at his relationship with the owner of establishments, in one of which Deborah’s abuser also worked.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is controlled by other, impure interests, and do not expect results,” he added. Tsvetanov told Bulgaria ON AIR that in terms of crime, our country is returning to the levels of the 1990s and 2008, when there was a boom in kidnappings.

“Currently, and in the last 5-6 years, the Ministry of the Interior does not have any results that are significant on the international scene,” the former interior minister also said. According to him, in recent years, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has become part of the political strategy “that the political formations apply” and the department has become “an organ that supports economic and political interests at the local and regional level”.
