Precarious Water Conditions Lead to Ban on Nautical Activities and Fish Consumption in the Loire River

The red flag was already floating around the Villerest dam to warn of the ban on swimming. The latest analyzes carried out by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) show that the rate remains excessive for cyanobacteria. Alexandre Rochatte, prefect of the Loire, issued an order prohibiting, until August 18 inclusive, all nautical activities likely to lead to immersion in water.

This order concerns the section of the Loire river between the Chessieux viaduct; between the communes of Saint-Georges-de-Baroille and Balbigny upstream of the Villerest dam, and the wall of the Villerest dam, between the communes of Villerest and Commelle-Vernay.

Pleasure boating and nautical activities resulting or likely to result in immersion in water are therefore prohibited, and in particular canoeing, kayaking, rowing, water skiing, jet skiing, stand-up paddle boarding , windsurfing, hydrofoil…

Note that the consumption of fishery and aquaculture products is also prohibited on this section of the Loire River.
