Jakarta (ANTARA) – Sony said demand for its PlayStation 5 (PS5) console via pre-order was “enormous,” in line with the Japanese company’s target to be in the forefront of the device’s launch on November 12.
The PS5 console pre-sale that took place in the United States in 12 hours had the same amount as the first 12 weeks of sales of its predecessor PlayStation 4, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan.
“The demand as shown by the number of pre-orders is very, very large,” Ryan told Reuters, quoted Wednesday.

Sony has sold more than 100 million PS4 units, and hopes its users will switch to new devices with titles, such as “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” with improved graphics, sound and feedback via the new controller.
The launch of the PS5 comes amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has propelled companies game, but also disrupt the retail network, development game, and manufacturing supply chains around the world.
“Maybe not everyone looking to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find it,” said Ryan, adding that the company was “working as hard as we could” to ensure a safe supply during the year-end shopping season.
Sony is expected to experience profit growth game quarterly as PS4 users shift to higher-margin downloads, with the PS5 forecast being the first next-generation device to not push the division game to an annual loss in the year it was launched.
Sony has built a network of in-house studios producing a number of exclusive titles, including Sucker Punch Productions’ “Ghost of Tsushima”, to fend off rival Microsoft’s Xbox and other newcomers.
“Development game AAA is a very complicated and difficult thing to do, “Ryan said, using an industry term for game with a big budget. Sony has “learned many lessons over the years” it has put into securing its PS5 launch lineup, he added.
Sony plans to expand its studio capabilities organically.
A number of analysts predict the industry game will continue to receive encouragement from consumers who must be at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ryan said Sony will encourage engagement with consumer interactions.
“We really hope so and we are optimistic we can do better than we thought,” Ryan said.
