Apple launched pre-orders for its four iPhone 16 variants on December 13, and unlike previous generations, it seems that the iPhone 16 Pro et 16 Pro Max are not as appealing as the entry-level versions.
For several generations of iPhones, Apple has been launching in two stages, with the result that it has made it easier to direct users towards its variants. Pro and Pro Max, the two most expensive versions in its catalog.
But with theiPhone 16it seems that the trend has reversed. According to Ming Chi Kuo who analyzed the shipping times of the Apple site combined with a survey conducted at the supply chain level, the two Pro versions seem to be falling behind the other two in terms of pre-orders.
According to the analyst, we would be witnessing a 16% drop iPhone 16 Pro Max pre-orders compared to the previous generation, and -27% pour l’iPhone 16 Pro.
At the same time, we would witness a iPhone 16 Plus pre-orders up 48%, iPhone 16 up 10% compared to the iPhone 15 of the same standard.
In total, Apple is said to have recorded 37 million pre-orders in the last 3 dayseither 12.7% less than the iPhone 15. A situation that could be partly explained by the delays of Apple Intelligence. Apple has insisted a lot on its artificial intelligence environment during the presentations, making it the main selling point, while specifying that it would not be immediately available anywhere other than the USA and in English only… In addition, competition in the high-end field is also becoming increasingly fierce and Apple’s position in relation to market regulators, particularly in Europe, has also tarnished its own image.
Apple could miss its targets with the iPhone 16, and even the launch ofApple Intelligence in the fourth quarter coupled with end-of-year reductions will not change anything.
If Apple fails to meet its targets by the end of the year, the brand is expected to launch aggressive promotional campaigns around its iPhone 16 from the beginning of 2025.
