Praying In Front Of Two Corona Goddess Statues, Last Effort To Stop The Covid-19 Pandemic In India

Coimbatore, REQNews.com – A number of Hindu priests in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu state – the region worst affected by the Covid-19 tsunami – daily pray to two idols of the corona virus goddess in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

Two idols of the Goddess Korona, or ‘Corona Devi’ are installed at Kamatchipuri Adhinam Temple south of Coimbatore. The shrine is closed to worshipers due to the high infection rate, but priests continue to pray in front of the two statues of the goddess Corona.

One statue is made of sandalwood, the other is made of stone.

India has recorded a death toll from Covid-19 of one hundred thousand across the country in the past four weeks. Thursday 27 May, India recorded 211,298 new cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths rose by 3,847.

The total caseload has now reached 23.37 million. The total deaths were 315,235, according to Indian Ministry of Health data.

Every day the pastor makes offerings of food and other things, while offering prayers urging an end to the pandemic. Daily idols are bathed in turmeric water and milk.

“We had similar temples for smallpox and other epidemics in the past,” said Anandbharathi K, the temple manager. “We worship the virus in the form of a goddess, and ask her to reduce the impact of this disease.”

India was also shocked by the emergence of another outbreak in the midst of the corona virus pandemic, namely black fungus disease. Many people who recovered from Covid-19 but died from black fungus.

The wave of the Covid-19 pandemic overwhelmed hospitals. India has also lost many doctors. Those who lay weak due to respiratory problems are increasingly tormented by the lack of oxygen.

“Even doctors cannot handle the situation. So, we turn to faith and God as a last resort,” said Anandbharathi.

The pastor plans to continue their prayers in front of the two goddesses of the choroma for the next seven weeks.
