Pelita Jaya Jakarta gave up 65-74 of Prawira Harum Bandung in the first game of the Finals IBL 2023. Andakara Prastawa et al failed to take advantage of playing as hosts.
Playing at the Senayan Basketball Hall, Thursday (20/7) evening WIB, Pelita started the match slowly, but managed to lead 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. Prawira rose in the second quarter and held Pelita at the end of the first half with the score tied 38-38.
Prawira appeared more dominant in the next quarter. Pelita only managed to lead once, when they took the lead 46-45, but after that Prawira continued to advance and closed the third quarter with a 58-54 advantage.
In the final quarter, Prawira tried to keep his distance. Pelita got four points from Aldy Rachman, but two points from Reza Guntara and Yudha Saputera and Indra Muhammad’s three-point shot made the visitors lead 65-58 with 4 minutes 20 seconds remaining.
Guntara’s lay-up increased Prawira’s lead to 67-58, but Dominique Sutton’s free shot and Agassi Goantara’s three-point shot brought Pelita closer to Prawira to 62-67.
Prawira went away 70-62 through Guntara’s three point shot. Yudha’s two-point shot made the distance between the two teams widen to 10 points with 92 seconds remaining.
Sutton’s three-point shot then changed the score to 65-72, but Yudha’s two free throws in less than 30 seconds remaining changed the score to 74-65, which lasted until the game was over.
Guntara became the main star in Prawira’s victory this time by scoring 26 points. “Thank God, Prawira was able to take the first game. We only played basketball, follow coach instructions, play a role, trust each otherthat’s all,” said the 27-year-old player after the game.
With this result, Prawira leads 1-0 in the best of three system. The second match will be held at Prawira’s home ground, GOR C-Tra Arena, on Saturday (22/7) at 19.00 WIB. They only need one more victory to confirm themselves as champions.
As for Pelita, they must win in the second match to extend their breath to game three which will take place on Sunday (23/7).
