Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari lost in the round of 16 of the 2023 China Open. Indonesian representatives finished in this number.
Praveen/Melati started the match against Tan/Lai well with a 4-0 lead. After that, Tan/Lai pushed back and were able to turn around to take an 8-6 lead.
The game became more exciting as the technique was contested, which was demonstrated by two doubles in the following points. The score was a draw at 10-10 and then Tan/Lai could lead a narrow 11-10 at the interval.
After the interval, Praveen/Melati were able to return to the lead thanks to four consecutive points which made them lead 14-12. Praveen/Melati and Tan/Lai were in a 14-14 draw but then Praveen/Melati were able to get away with three consecutive points.
After winning 17-14, Praveen/Melati kept advancing until they were able to increase the point difference to four points at 19-15.
Praveen/Melati then won a game point at 20-17 after winning the rally against Tan/Lai on the next occasion. The first opportunity failed to be used because Tan Kian Meng’s thin netting could not be returned by Melati.
Praveen/Melati then won the first game with a score of 21-18 after winning the next point. Praveen’s smash was followed by Melati’s strike in front of the net but the opponent was unable to block it.
In the second game, Tan/Lai led 3-0 at the start of the match and continued to maintain their advantage until 11-8 at the interval.
After the interval, Praveen/Melati continued to lag behind until their opponents won a game point at 20-14. Praveen/Melati had thwarted five match points for their opponent but ended up losing 19-21 in the second game.
In the third game, Tan/Lai were again impressive at the start. They can win seven points in a row and lead 12-2. After that moment, Tan/Lai kept the situation under control.
Tan/Lai picked up point after point and then took a 15-8 lead and continued to 18-8. Tan/Lai won the match point at 20-11 and finished the match with a score of 21-12.
In the previous match, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari also stopped in the last 16 of the China Open. Rinov/Pitha lost with a score of 16-21, 13-21 in a duel against Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerratanachai.
The defeat of the two Indonesian representatives followed the previous defeat by Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja. As a result, Indonesia no longer has a representative in mixed doubles.
