A good dose of lights is here again. Signal Festival 2024 will light up Prague from Thursday, October 10 to Sunday, October 13, and the organizers are promising several novelties. The most important one is the extension of the Signal Forum international conference, which was reported on the event’s website. She will present an astrobiologist from NASA, an expert from CERN or artists who lit up the Empire State Building with video mapping.
The twelfth year of the Signal Festival continues the three-year Ecosystems project, this time with the title Ecosystems II: The Journey / Expedition. That journey has always been a major artistic theme. It is not only the core of countless stories, the key to solving big and personal crises, but also a metaphor for self-knowledge.
This year, Signal Festival once again cooperates with leading cultural institutions and offers visitors the opportunity to see installations at prestigious locations in Prague. It will present a total of 22 installations on the routes of Hradčany and the center, which also include 7 stops in the paid Gallery Zone.
Signal Festival Routes
For the first time, Signal Festival will transform the grounds of Prague Castle into a projection area and gallery zone. One of the two routes of the twelfth edition, which will present the best of digital and creative culture from October 10 to 13, will pass through Hradčany. “The Signal Festival has been striving for the opportunity to transform the historically and architecturally unique location of Prague Castle for a long time, and after twelve years this wish has become a reality. Signal Festival can therefore offer installations and projections in Hradčany in the premises of the galleries located here, with which we are cooperating this year.” says Signal Festival director Martin Pošta.
The second route will show visitors the work of renowned Czech and foreign artists in the center of Prague. This year’s Signal Festival will offer twenty-two installations, seven of which are exclusively outside the gates of the Gallery Zone, for which tickets must be purchased.
Signal Forum news
The digital and creative culture festival Signal Festival is expanding with a new European creative forum for those who want to be ready for the future. Signal Forum was created in cooperation with the Slovak festival Sensorium and in 11 and 12 October 2024 will offer lectures, workshops and accompanying activitieswhich will connect professionals from the fields of art, science and technology.
Signal Forum will bring 15 internationally recognized speakers, including 11 recognized experts such as astrobiologist from NASA Michaela Musilová, Arts at CERN founder Ariane Koeka performative pair of programmers Foxdog Studios or a Parisian creative studio Superbwhich create creative projects for global brands. The main theme of the conference at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) during the Signal Festival is connected to its twelfth year this year with the theme Ecosystems 02: Expedition.
Two video mappings
The twelfth year of the Signal Festival will be special video mapping of two buildings in historical Prague. Video mapping of the Archbishop’s Palace titled Eternal Recurrence will be performed by digital creator Filip Hodas. This Czech, internationally recognized artist, whose works become viral, masterfully plays with the border between fiction and reality.
Video mapping at the city library on Mariánské náměstí will be under the baton of the Spanish-Danish visual group Desilence. Her screening of The Rhythm of the Ocean will transport audiences into the depths of the mighty element with musical accompaniment by five-time Grammy Award nominee Suzanne Ciani.
Gallery zone in seven locations
The gallery zone is nothing new at the festival, for 8 years visitors have been supporting the fact that most of the festival remains accessible to everyone by purchasing tickets. Tickets are available at festival website and only thanks to them it is possible to see within 4 days all 22 installations.
The works of prominent artists will be on display in Riding stables of the Prague Castle thanks to the Prague Castle Administration, in Šternbersky a Schwarzenberg Palacewhich is managed by the National Gallery Prague, v Kunsthalle Prague, Clam-Gallas Palace with a performance of the Laterna Magic of the National Theatre, Baroque refectory of the Dominican monastery with an installation created in collaboration with the Ars Electronica festival and at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP).
