Chennai: Pragnananda, who came back after winning second place in the Chess World Cup, received a huge reception in Chennai. A reception was arranged at the airport under the leadership of the state government. The reception was accompanied by performances of traditional Tamil art forms.
Students and teachers of Pragnananda’s school came with placards. Chief Minister M.K. Pragnananda, who visited Stalin, was handed over a check of Rs 30 lakh as a reward by the Tamil Nadu government. Pragnananda’s parents and sister were also present.
Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin also came to receive Pragnananda and his family. Pragnananda said he was happy with the reception and said it was a very positive move for chess.
Vaishali, Pragnananda’s sister and chess ace, said that when Viswanathan Anand returned after winning the world championship, his brother received a reception similar to the one given to him in Chennai. Pragnananda thanked those who came to receive him. Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra gave an electric car to Pragnananda as a gift.
