TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto categorically rejected the discourse to pair Gerindra’s Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Board, Sandiaga Uno, with Anies Baswedan in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres). He stated that Sandiaga would continue to follow Gerindra’s decisions as long as he was in the party.
“About Mas Sandi, I think Mas Sandi has answered many times in all forums, that he obeys and will comply with the party’s decision,” Prabowo said during a press conference after receiving a visit from the General Chair of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, Sunday, March 5 2023.
He emphasized that the Party Gerindra has declared himself a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Meanwhile, Anies Baswedan has been nominated as a presidential candidate by the NasDem Party, Democratic Party and PKS.
“The party’s decision is clear that I am the presidential candidate, as long as he (Sandiag) is in the party, he will adhere to party lines,” he said.
Prabowo said his meeting with Surya Paloh which lasted about two hours resulted in an agreement that the two of them would respect each other’s political direction in the contest. 2024 presidential election.
“Regarding the coalition, regarding the presidential and vice presidential candidates, we have agreed to respect each other’s political decisions,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also refused to partner with Anies Baswedan
Prabowo also admitted that he respected Surya Paloh’s decision which he had brought Anies Baswedan as a joint presidential candidate with the Democratic Party and PKS.
When asked about his willingness to partner with Anies Baswedan, Prabowo again emphasized that he and Surya Paloh had agreed to respect each other’s decisions in facing the General Election.
“I have already said, in intensive and extensive talks we agreed we would respect each other’s political decisions and were determined to carry out closer and more intensive communications. Even if Anies has become a NasDem political decision, we will respect it,” he said.
