Presidential candidate serial number 02 Prabowo Subianto attended the Mekar Digital Sejahtera (MDS) Cooperative event at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, West Java. Prabowo praised the Chair of the MDS Coop Board of Trustees, Rini Soemarno, for wanting to manage the cooperative.
Prabowo initially promised to expand cooperatives if elected president. According to Prabowo, cooperatives absolutely must be developed.
“Many people, especially from large countries perhaps, or powers that only think about a large capitalist economic system, but we absolutely have to raise cooperatives to help all of our people, brothers and sisters,” said Prabowo in his speech.
Prabowo said that there had been attempts to give cooperatives a bad name. According to him, KUD was even allowed to become chairman of the profits first.
“In fact, in the past there were attempts to give cooperatives a bad name, in the past KUD was given the abbreviation chairman, profit first, in my opinion that was an attempt to weaken the cooperative movement. We have tens of thousands of cooperatives throughout Indonesia, maybe hundreds of them, yes there are jerks, I also handle ,” he said.
“There are also cooperative heads who are assholes, but I am sure that the MDS leadership is not an asshole, its leaders serve and work to the best of their ability to help all of our brothers and sisters,” he continued.
Prabowo then praised Rini Soemarno for managing the cooperative. Prabowo was amazed by the former BUMN Minister who wanted to grow cooperatives.
“I know Mrs. Rini, I think if Mrs. Rini wants to live well in America, she can do it now, right? If she wants to live well in London or wherever, I’m also surprised why Mrs. Rini still wants to manage the cooperative, I’m also surprised by that,” Prabowo said.
Because of his admiration for Rini Soemarno, Prabowo finally decided to build MDS Coop. He is also determined to grow the cooperative.
“But I finally respected it, I ended up amazed and at that time I was determined to help MDS Coop. But because this is the political season, sometimes our intentions are politicized, right?” he explained.
“I want to participate in capital, it’s called money politics, it’s said that I want to buy MDS Coop support, I don’t have that intention, my grandfather was the founder of a cooperative in the Republic of Indonesia, my father’s last position before he died was chairman of the parent cooperative for civil servants throughout Indonesia, until he died he served in there,” he added.
Prabowo said that currently he is building a number of cooperatives. According to him, cooperatives are very beneficial for the people.
“And in the army I also encourage and foster cooperatives. If you ask soldiers whether cooperatives in the army are useful or not, they will definitely say they are useful, brothers and sisters. But if you ask smart people, maybe they are economic experts, I don’t know. “I’ve learned that they never want to grow cooperatives. If I become president, I want to grow cooperatives,” he concluded.
