Prabowo Subianto Delays Registration with KPU, Pressure from Other Parties

Jakarta

General Chairman (ketum) Gerindra Prabowo Subianto still have not registered with the KPU to date. Chairman of Bappilu Democrat Andi Arief said that there were parties who were forcing their will so that Prabowo still had not registered with the KPU.

This was conveyed by Andi Arief in a tweet received by account X detikcom, Saturday (21/10/2023). Andi initially mentioned that there were already two candidate pairs who had registered with the KPU, namely Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin).

“Ganjar has declared with his cawapres and has registered with the KPU. Anies has declared with his cawapres and has registered with the KPU,” wrote Andi.

Andi mentioned that his presidential candidate had not yet registered with the KPU. According to him, Prabowo has his own thoughts but there are parties who impose their will.

“Why hasn’t Prabowo yet? Because there are those who really impose their will while Prabowo has other thoughts,” he said.

For your information, the Democrats are members of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) which is nominating Prabowo as presidential candidate. Apart from the Democrats, KIM includes Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, Gelora and Garuda.

Spokesperson reveals why Prabowo hasn’t registered yet

Prabowo’s spokesman, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, revealed the reason Prabowo had not registered with the KPU. He said that Prabowo’s leave letter from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had just come out today.

Dahnil initially explained that Prabowo had submitted two letters to Jokowi on 18 October. The two letters are a permission letter to take part in the 2024 presidential election process as a presidential candidate and a letter of leave to register for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

“As of October 18, Mr. Prabowo sent two letters at once to President Jokowi, including: First, a letter requesting permission to take part in the 2024 presidential election process as a presidential candidate. Second, a letter requesting permission to take leave to participate in the presidential and vice presidential candidate registration process,” said Dahnil to journalists, Saturday (21/10).

Dahnil said this bureaucratic process was the reason why Prabowo did not register before his rival candidates. According to him, permission from the president is necessary so as not to disrupt government performance.

“That is why the process of announcing Mr. Prabowo Subianto’s vice presidential candidate is not ahead of other presidential candidates, because Mr. Prabowo maintains his ethics as a subordinate or minister. He needs permission from the President so as not to disrupt the performance of Mr. Jokowi’s Cabinet,” he said.

Dahnil said that the letter requesting permission for leave had been approved by the president through Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.

“And, thank God, today the permission letter from the President through the Minister of State Secretary has been issued. Two permits at once. Permission to take part in the presidential election process and permission to leave for the presidential and vice presidential candidate registration process,” he said.
