TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chairman of Gerindra Prabowo Subianto consulted with a number of figures from various elements in determining the vice presidential candidate to accompany him in the 2024 presidential election. These efforts included consulting with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
“Pak Prabowo will discuss with all figures. Especially with a President. It is important because this is a person whose legacy will be passed on,” said the Secretary General Gerindra Ahmad Muzani during a visit to the National Mandate Party DPP Office, South Jakarta, Monday, June 5 2023.
Apart from Jokowi, Prabowo also consulted and discussed with kiai, retired generals, and political seniors.
Muzani explained, his party wanted a cawapres figure who could work with Prabowo to continue Jokowi’s leadership program. Therefore, he said, the cawapres figure who would later accompany Prabowo must have the same vision.
“In terms of determining the cawapres, there will be (consultation) with all the political party forces that support him, religious leaders, kiai, habib, including the President,” said Muzani.

Meanwhile, at a meeting of Gerindra Party officials yesterday, PAN Secretary General Eddy Soeparno said his party offered the name of SOE Minister Erick Thohir as Prabowo’s running mate.
Eddy explained that Erick did have a special affinity with PAN. Apart from that, he said, the BUMN Minister was also never absent when invited to attend PAN events.
In the PAN meeting with Gerindra, Eddy mentioned the discussion about Erick Thohir like being the main menu. Eddy confirmed that Erick’s offer to become a vice presidential candidate had also been made to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to accompany Ganjar Pranowo.
“What was it called? It seems that Mr. Erick Thohir’s business is included in the mandatory meeting menu,” said Eddy.
