Prospective presidential candidate for the Advanced Indonesia Coalition Prabowo Subianto said he would not disband KPK if elected as president in the 2024 presidential election.

He said this in response to Najwa Shihab’s question, who asked about Prabowo’s assessment of the KPK’s performance, which was considered by a number of parties to be declining.

“The important thing is not to give the impression that this is not good, don’t disband it,” said Prabowo at Mata Najwa On Stage as broadcast on YouTube UGM, Tuesday (19/9).

Prabowo said power must always be monitored. He believes that the greater the power, the greater the amount of corruption.

He also considers it natural that there are parties who feel disappointed and dissatisfied with the KPK’s performance.

“I think yes, we are building a country, we must be disappointed, many of us are not satisfied. I think that is reasonable,” he said.

Prabowo said he would gather legal experts to find the best way to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

“Yes, we will gather stakeholders, legal experts from various sources and we will look for the best for the nation, the best for the nation,” he said.

Apart from that, he said that all institutions in Indonesia must be studied, all institutions in Indonesia that are deemed less than optimal must be improved.

“I think we have to examine all institutions, which ones we feel are not quite right, so we can fix them, namely reform, legal reform, legal reform and so on,” he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the most important thing is self-monitoring. According to him, all institutions need to improve themselves and be controlled by a strong system.

He also encouraged an active audit system from a number of institutions in Indonesia, from BPKP, BPK, to KPK.

Prabowo then touched on the reforms that have taken place within the National Police recently. According to him, impunity is starting to erode in the Bhayangkara Corps.

“If we look at the police now we see that several generals are being punished, generals who seem to be in power can be punished,” said Prabowo.
