Prabowo-Gibran TKN Expert Council Responds to PDIP’s Opposition Statement: Hasto Kristiyanto vs Budiman Sudjatmiko

Jakarta

Secretary General PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto brought up PDIP, which was once outside the government as the opposition. Deputy Chairman of the Prabowo-Gibran TKN Expert Council Budiman Sudjatmiko responded to Hasto’s statement.

Initially, Budiman explained that candidate pair number 2 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka wanted to embrace all political parties if they won the presidential election. However, continued Budiman, Prabowo will not interfere in PDIP’s internal affairs.

“Pak Prabowo wants to embrace the principle, but of course Pak Prabowo is not in a position to interfere in the internal affairs of each party. Pak Prabowo embraces the party, not the presidential candidate, but each party,” he said.

Budiman said that even though PDIP was talking about the opposition, Prabowo would still offer to join if he won. However, according to Budiman, the PDIP’s direction next year could change after the congress.

“The issue of PDIP becoming the opposition was done in the era of President SBY. I’m not too sure, but Pak Prabowo will offer it, but it also depends on the party’s internal dynamics too, at the party congress there will be a PDIP congress in 2025, who knows, maybe “looking at the situation and conditions and looking at the greater national interest, who knows, at next year’s congress the PDIP may decide to join, that’s what I think,” he said.

Budiman said that Prabowo would invite anyone who had a vision and mission that was in line with his.

“Pak Prabowo’s principle is that he will talk to those who are considered to share our vision of national ideals,” he said.

Hasto previously brought up PDIP being a party outside the government or opposition for 10 years. Hasto assessed that the PDIP opposition’s attitude during this period received appreciation.

“When PDI Perjuangan was outside the government in 2004 and 2009, we were widely appreciated for our role in improving the quality of democracy. In fact, our work outside the government was a patriotic duty to defend the interests of the people themselves,” said Hasto Kristiyanto in a written statement, Thursday (15/2/2024).

Hasto touched on allegations of fraud in the 2009 elections, such as manipulation of the final voter list (DPT) to the DPR establishing a right of inquiry as well as voters abroad who were unable to exercise their right to vote due to administrative factors.

“Fraud from upstream to downstream really does happen. It’s just that we are dealing with two things. First, those who want to make this democracy the sovereignty of the people without any intervention. Then, those who are because of their ambition for power and this started with legal engineering at the Constitutional Court, ” he said.

Hasto said PDIP was ready to fight outside the government through the party and the DPR. Hasto said that fighting as an opposition was a patriotic duty that PDIP had carried out after the 2004 elections and the 2009 elections.

“Because whatever happens in national political dynamics, we have an obligation to convey what is happening to the people,” he said
