Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto talk about other countries’ amazement at their relationship with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to Prabowo, other countries were confused when he, who was Jokowi’s rival during the 2019 presidential election, could join the government.
“I, as you probably know, don’t know, do you know? I used to be Mr. Jokowi’s rival, but that, that’s it, there are other nations, other countries are confused to see the Indonesian nation, confused, how can two rivals, two figures, how come the game is over? how come there is one,” he said Prabowo during the Istigasah and Joint Prayer of Malay-Banjar Rabithah in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, Friday (17/3/2023).
Prabowo said the joining of two rivals in one government is difficult to happen in other countries. He gave the example of the United States which is the birthplace of democracy.
“In other countries it is difficult and difficult, until now in the United States alone they say democracy was born, democracy was born, now if two major parties enter a room they say they don’t want to sit together,” he said.
Therefore, according to Prabowo, Indonesia is now an example for other countries. That in the interest of the people and the nation, he continued, the two rivals could unite.
“Many countries look at us. If it is for the interests of the people, if it is for the interests of the nation and state, we will prioritize the interests of the nation and state,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also admitted that he had never felt guilty about his decision to join the Jokowi government. In fact, the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party felt proud to be part of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.
“I want to say that I feel it was not wrong for me to join President Joko Widodo. Not only do I feel right, now I feel grateful and I feel proud to have joined President Joko Widodo,” he said.
Prabowo then praised Jokowi’s leadership. He even admitted that in leading the country he had to learn from Jokowi.
“And I witness that I see Pak Jokowi’s commitment to extraordinary people, he always thinks for the common people, I finally have to admit that in terms of leading the country I have to learn from Pak Joko Widodo,” concluded Prabowo.
