Meghan Markle’s recent trip to Uvalde, Texas has sparked controversy on social media.
On May 24, Uvalde faced a tragedy in which 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 children and two educators inside Robb Elementary School. Ramos was also killed.
Markle went to the Texas city to donate blood and food, as well as visit memorials for the 21 people who died in the shooting. Many praised it, but others condemned it as a public relations stunt.

“I never paid much attention to Meghan Markle until today. She had the audacity to show up in Ulvade, TX to pay her respects. Along with her bodyguard and a horde of photographers. Nothing of class. It’s about her,” he said. ranting user.
“Sorry this was a tragic event and she used it as a photo opportunity. #MeganMarkle will instead visit her severely disabled father. Always looking for self-advertising,” one angry Twitter user wrote.
“Meghan Markle made an ‘unannounced visit’ to Uvalde that all the major media outlets were conveniently there to acknowledge and photograph her laying flowers,” wrote another.
“I find her posing like this, no doubt her own photographer, absolutely disgusting. I’m used to PR stunts from him, but this actually pisses me off. By all means pay your respects but posing 4 pics and posting them for the media is SICK,” exclaimed one user.
Many also came to Markle’s defense.
One user exclaimed: “There is nothing wrong with caring about people and showing up to support a hurting community. The Uvalde community volunteers didn’t even realize it was Meghan Markle until AFTER she had already left. Anyone who criticizes kindness clearly has none in her heart.” .»

One Twitter user said: “So disgusted that people feel so comfortable bullying Meghan Markle for simply donating to school shooting survivors and families of victims. How is giving back to the community an offense to you? Why do people insist on being so mean?”
People are more angry that Meghan Markle donated blood than they are because the cops stood by doing nothing while children were being murdered in their classroom. What the hell America, get your priorities straight,” wrote another.
“Megan Markle literally went to Texas unannounced, dressed in normal clothes and didn’t tell anyone who she was. The volunteers didn’t know who she was until she left. She was photographed by photographers who were already in Texas. Explain how this was a public relations stunt. I’ll wait,” explained another.
A volunteer named Gloria Contreras spoke with BuzzFeed News about meeting Markle, “I had no idea who she was. I was just having a conversation as she and I had known each other for years.”
“We were talking about, you know, the situation and what happened, what we were doing here. I told him that we gave people water and fed them,” she continued.
Another volunteer at the blood drive said: “It’s funny, we didn’t even know it was her until after she left and now we’re so sad. I mean, to be honest, we thought she was our neighbor ».
