PP Leader Denounces Fraud and Indignity of Amnesty Demanded by Catalan Independence Movement

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóocharged this Sunday against the “fraud” and “indignity” of the amnesty demanded by the Catalan independence movement to give its support to a new Government of Pedro Sanchez and has defended the “equality” of all Spaniards as a guarantee of their rights.

Feijóo’s intervention, 48 hours before the start of the debate on his investiture – which is expected to fail due to lack of support – was the central speech in a massive event called in Madrid by the Popular Party and which, according to sources in Genoa, has brought together more than 60.000 personas in the Plaza de Felipe II, 40,000 according to the Government Delegation in Madrid.

Some people have not been able to access the square and have had to follow the interventions from the adjacent streets. According to PP sources to RTVE, it is the most multi-million dollar event in the history of the party and they have shown their satisfaction for an attendance that, they say, has exceeded their expectations.

Those attending the event carried flags against Sánchez and demanded the prison for former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont. Before the start, the PP has projected a video of the acting President of the Government who has raised the shouts of “out, out”.

Feijóo defends equality “whatever the cost”

In his speech, Feijóo warned the PSOE that it does not have the consent for Spain to stop “being “a nation of free and equal citizens” and has warned that, in the last elections, “no Spaniard, at least 94% of Spaniards” voted in favor of “a change in the constitutional regime”, in reference to friendship.

“That was not voted on, that is a fraud aggravated and repeated by the same person,” said the leader of the PP, who has committed to defending equality “for all” at any cost, including the presidency of the Government. .

Núñez Feijóo, amid the applause of the attendees and shouts of ‘president, president’, has shown his thanks to the 33 Vox deputies who will support his investiture, as well as those from the Canarian Coalition and UPN. He has also thanked “those members of the PSOE” who defend “what their party defended a few months ago” and who could be “expelled” for it, in reference to the former socialist leaders. Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra. Despite this, he has assured that they are recognized by the majority as “statesmen and women.”

Feijóo asked Pedro Sánchez to do not take the Spanish for fools “because they are not fools”. “What they do has only one name, indignity, some accomplices, the current PSOE, and only one person responsible, who is in the Moncloa Palace after having lost the elections,” she warned.

He has also denounced the “new noise” about the “progressive majority” because “they are neither progressive, nor socialist, nor are they the majority”. “It is not socialism when they claim privileges for an “elite of politicians to the detriment of everyone, that is not socialism, it is political elitism,” she added.

The president of the PP has stated that it is due “exclusively” to the citizens. “Whether or not I will be the Presidency of the Government now or soon, but as far as I am concerned What will remain for Spain will be freedom, equality and dignity“, concluded his speech, which concluded with the national anthem.

Aznar: “An unprecedented attack on the Constitution”

The event was attended by the former presidents Mariano Rajoy and José María Aznaras well as with all the territorial ‘barons’ of the party, who have come to support Feijóo on the eve of the investiture.

In his speech, Aznar asked those present to they are not silent before the amnesty to the “coup attempt” of the process‘ already an “unprecedented attack” on the Constitution. “The Constitution and citizenship are not bargaining chips to satisfy coup plotters,” she said.

For the former president, when Sánchez says that we must “de-judicialize a coup attempt” what he means is: “Don’t worry because if you vote for me I will give you the unity of all Spaniards and all the Spaniards are going to pay you for the coup you attempted and the new one that you are going to try again.

“Silence is not a responsible option,” warned Aznar, who called for Spaniards, “whatever their ideas,” to make their voices heard in defense of a “nation of free and equal citizens” and warned against that History will not be “kind” to those who break the constitutional order and not with those who are “inhibited.”

“The only historical debt that exists here is the one that the secessionists have with Spanish democracy, which they have not paid and have to pay,” added the former popular leader, who concluded his speech with cheers for the Constitution and Spain.

Rajoy: “Morally unacceptable”

For his part, Mariano Rajoy has stated that the amnesty demanded by the Catalan independentists is “morally unacceptable” and that it would turn “the coup plotters into honorable adherents of the law.”

For Rajoy, this amnesty represents “a amendment to the entire Constitution “and our democracy” and would mean “the transition to another regime” in which “the law of the strongest would prevail.” For this reason, he has attacked Sánchez for “marketing” with the rule of law “to win an investiture.”

We will oppose it with all legal means at our disposal. against those who seek to establish a government on the ruins of our rule of law,” he said about the amnesty and asked: “If it is so necessary, why didn’t they promise it during the campaign? For this reason, the former president has reproached Sánchez for changing his opinion on the matter. “The only difference between the emphatic no of then and the silences or empty words of now are the Puigdemont votes that Sánchez needs to be invested,” he warned.

“It is the first time in history that the investiture does not depend on an electoral mandate or a government program, but of the blackmail of a fugitive from justice“added Rajoy, who has described the amnesty as a “fraud” by the leader of the PSOE.

The former president of the Government has defended that “the only thing” that “really” improved the situation in Catalonia was the application of the law and article 155 of the Constitution before the referendum, under his Government. “From that moment on, everyone, including them, understood that democracy has instruments to defend itself,” said Rajoy, who highlighted the figure of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who, in his opinion, should stand on the Congress platform during the investiture raising “the flag of the Constitution and equality between Spaniards“.

Ayuso: “Saying amnesty is the same as saying that Spain is a dictatorship”

Also the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayusohas charged in his speech against the amnesty and has assured that demanding it is the same as saying that “Spain is an oppressive dictatorship.”

“Are we going to let them give the world this image of Spain, as if we were not a free, democratic and constitutional country“?” asked the Madrid president, who has supported Feijóo and has assured that the president of the PP will become “the voice of millions of Spaniards” during the investiture.

For Ayuso, talking about amnesty is the same as maintaining that “the coup (détat)” of the ‘procés’ “was well executed” and “was fair.” “We tell them that there is no way“warned the Madrid president, who has accused the independentists of having “suffocated the Catalans for decades” and is now asking for more money “to pay” those who “insult and despise” the Spaniards.

Ayuso rejects the amnesty because it would mean that Spain is a “dictatorship”: “No way”

Previously, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeidaopened the event with a speech in which he criticized a hypothetical investiture pact between “a fugitive from justice” – in reference to Puigdemont – and a prisoner of excessive ambition like Pedro Sánchez.
