Emmanuel Pozzolothe (suspended) deputy of the Brothers of Italy, under investigation for the gunshot that ruined the New Year’s Eve party in Rosazza (Biella) at which the undersecretary of justice Andrea Delmastro was also present, returns to reiterate his presumed innocence to the Associations.

Pozzolo, from the prosecutor’s ballistics report it emerges that it was you who shot. Was it you?
“No. That shot didn’t come from my hand. This is not my version, it’s the simple truth. Period. I told the police from the first moment. Then during an interview. And I say this even now after the news about the appraisal came out. News that evidently reached the press from the prosecutor’s office before it reached my lawyer and me.”
But then who was the one who shot? The report says that Pablito Morello, Delmastro’s escort leader, was at his side.
«It is those who carry out the investigations who should carefully evaluate not only this observation, but also what I declared that night. It’s certainly not up to me to say from which hand that shot came.”
Why isn’t it up to her?
«Because generally among civilized and loyal people who are together, there is no need for someone to accuse. Since there was no malicious intent in the incident that occurred, I think of this concept even more strongly.”
But doesn’t this silence harm her? When others accuse her?
«I believe that too many have declared completely inaccurate things. It is inevitable, unfortunately, that someone in this matter was responsible for less than noble behaviour. Together with my lawyers we are considering proceeding against those who gave false testimony and slandered.”
Does your silence come from the fact that you are a politician?
«My silence? I said very few words. But I said them. And I told the truth. I don’t care about political repercussions as long as they don’t harm me personally and attack my family. Politics has always been my passion and I believe I have always been loyal. I know the political dynamics and the delicacy of communication. And I respect some decisions. But calling me a gunslinger is bullshit. Unfortunately, the times of journalism and those of justice are different. There is an objective disproportion in this fact mainly dictated by political reasons.”
What does it mean?
«It means that we are faced with an accusation of a negligent and non-intentional crime. But are we really discussing this in Italy? Would these really be headline-grabbing facts? But please!
I am truly amazed by what happens in the world.”
Are you always of the opinion to tell everything to the prosecutor’s office?
«I said that I will tell everything to the magistrates. Not specifying. I have lawyers and I rely on them.
I am sorry to note that there is a continuing trickle of clandestine releases of news that reach the public before the person under investigation. It doesn’t seem correct to me. If this wave of mud in Italy were directed towards the real rubbish, we would live in a land of blessings.”
Do you hear Delmastro? What relationship are you in?
«Delmastro and I are friends. But this has nothing to do with what we are talking about. The facts brought to attention by others on his behalf do not belong to me. There was media overexposure that didn’t help anyone, nor did the search for the truth.”
When you speak, to the prosecutor’s office or to a judge, will you say who did it?
«I didn’t shoot. I’ve already told my truth. And I will reiterate it.”
But can’t you also say who did it?
«I’ll answer you with a question. Why did they only do the stub to me? And not to those around me?
I would have liked to end this story immediately. If you write that it was me and someone else, if it’s not me, who could it have been?”
