Poznań activist, poet and cultural animator Tomasz Genow has died

In 2013 year Tomek Genow became famous for his fight against illegal advertising in Poznańcutting them off with pruning shears from places where they shouldn’t have been hanging. He ended up in a police detention center for that, as he talked about on our program “Rozmowy pozachodnie” back then.

The stay in the detention center itself wasn’t so bad. Then such beautiful thoughts came to my mind that in a democracy you can also be imprisoned for your views. I remembered everything I had read, for example Piłsudski’s brochure about how the fate of a Pole is inextricably linked to prison.

Thomas Genov He was 33 years old. He was a graduate of philosophy at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.. He often performed at Poznań poetry slams. He also published a short story in the anthology “Powstanie ’18” about the Greater Poland Uprising. In 2019, a collection of his essays “Kosmos jest ze słów. Eseje o rozności świata” was published, which won the main prize in the 1st National Literary Book Competition “Nowy Dokument Tekstowy”.

Tomek Genow’s funeral will take place on Thursday at 12.30 at the Górczyński Cemetery.
