In Japan, the Subaru Crosstrek SUV debuted in September last year and replaced the XV model. Now the American premiere has taken place, and it is remarkable not only for the appearance of new versions. For the first time, the States will become a small home for this model. For twelve years, the cross-version of the Impreza has sold more than one million copies here, and in recent years has become the company’s best-selling model. For example, in 2022, 155,000 Crosstracks were sold here. Therefore, the new generation model will be produced not only in Japan, but also in the USA.
True, only older versions with a 2.5 engine (185 hp, 241 Nm) will be produced at the Subaru plant in Indiana – they will enter the local market in the summer. But the younger versions with a two-liter aspirated (154 hp, 197 Nm) will continue to come from Japan and will appear at dealers in the spring. By the way, in the Japanese market Crosstrek is offered only with the e-Boxer hybrid power plant, which includes an atmospheric boxer 2.0 (145 hp) and an electric motor (14 hp).
All U.S. vehicles will have a Lineartronic V-chain CVT, all-wheel drive, Active Torque Vectoring electronic system (thrust vector control using standard brakes) and X-Mode off-road driving modes. The ground clearance in the American specification is 220 mm, depending on the configuration, the Crosstrek has wheels with a diameter of 17 or 18 inches.
Basic equipment includes two seven-inch touch screens on the center console: the upper one is responsible for the Starlink media system and navigator, and the lower one is for climate control and machine settings. The expensive versions have a single display with a diagonal of 11.6 inches. The complex of electronic assistants EyeSight is included in the standard package. It is important that the starting price will not change with the generation change: the Subaru Crosstrek will cost from $25,000.
