Powerful processors are moving from desktops to laptops

The most important thing at the outset – AMD has already announced that it plans to launch 150 new notebooks with Ryzen 5000 series processors during the first half of this year.

The first machines could appear on store shelves in just a few weeks, as production is expected by leading laptop manufacturers, such as Lenovo, Acer, HP, Dell, Asus and others.

The number of planned machines is so high, as AMD unveiled 12 different processors at CES last week – eight powerful and five economical U-series. The best on offer is the Ryzen 9 5980HX chip, which offers eight cores and 16 threads and a frequency of up to 4 .8 GHz. However, it basically operates at 3.3 GHz.

The other five chips with Zen 3 architecture also offer high performance, as they also boast eight cores. Only two weaker models have six cores and 12 threads. Specifically, this applies to the Ryzen 5 5600H and Ryzen 5 5600HS models, which offer a maximum clock speed of 4.2 GHz in Turbo mode, but the fundamental frequency is different – specifically the Ryzen 5 5600H boasts a clock speed of 3.3 GHz, the cheaper Ryzen 5 5600HS then equal to 3 GHz.

In addition to these powerful chips, AMD has also introduced lightweight U-Series models that emphasize the lowest possible power consumption, which is key for laptops. All of them offer a TDP 15 W. However, potential applicants must accept that the performance will not be as high as with more powerful models.

In addition to laptops, the mentioned more powerful chips should also appear in compact sets intended for players. However, we will have to wait for more information about prices.
