After this Monday, April 1, there were no winners during the Powerball drawing, the jackpot of the popular lottery exceeded one billion dollars, a figure that makes it the fourth largest prize in the history of the game and the largest, until now, 2024.
The prize is currently $1.09 billion, which will be drawn on the night of Wednesday, April 3. If collected in cash, the prize is worth about $527.3 million, after applying the appropriate taxes.
The current prize ranks as the fourth largest in the Powerball and the ninth largest in the United States lottery. The prize is just one place below the 1.128 million Mega Millions lottery that went to a winner from New Jersey last Tuesday.
“For lotteries, this is our second consecutive week in which we are able to offer players an announced jackpot of more than $1 billion,” said Powerball Product Group President and Pennsylvania Lottery CEO Drew Svitko.
Svitko urged the population to participate in the game, as it only requires one winning ticket to win the grand prize. Likewise, he recalled that part of the lottery profits are destined for good causes in the state where the ticket is sold.
“If you’re thinking about purchasing a ticket for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, keep in mind that only one ticket is needed to win and a portion of your ticket sales will stay in your state to support good causes. Have fun and good luck!,” he added.
While there was no winner for the jackpot this Monday, April 1, six tickets across the United States managed to match the number of the five white balls, winning prizes of one million dollars.
One of these winning tickets fell in the state of Florida, while two others went to Maryland, one to Minnesota, one to North Carolina and the last one left in Virginia.
Nationally, another 53 of the tickets won prizes of $50,000 and 11 more won prizes of $100,000.
The last highest Powerball price was won on January 1, 2024, and fell in the state of Michigan. On that occasion, the lucky winner got $842.4 million in cash. Since then, 39 draws have been held in a row without a winner of the main prize.
In the event that the 40th draw on Wednesday, April 3, obtains a winner, he or she will have the option to choose between receiving an annualized prize with an estimated value of 1,090 million dollars or a single payment estimated at 527.3 million.
