Two wins for the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, two losses for the New York Giants and Jets, better be on the West Coast this year.
Still undefeated, Kansas City logically retains the lead in the standings. Surprised in Cleveland, Baltimore leaves its place on the podium to Buffalo. Behind, the Saints continue to fall.
As a reminder, this hierarchy is not only based on the number of successes, but also on current form. If two teams are close and haven’t played each other recently, it makes you wonder which one would win if the game were played today. Beating the strongest is not going to propel you to the top in the blink of an eye. Losing to one of the dunces won’t plunge you into the abyss either. One can win and tumble, bow and climb. This is the merciless law of Power Ranking…
1. Kansas City Chiefs (7-0)
Travis Kelce had not scored a touchdown in the regular season since November 21, 2023.
Week 9: reception of the Buccaneers
2. Detroit Lions (6-1)
The Lions are having their best start to a season since 1956. Given their current form, it is not clear who will stop them in the NFC.
Week 9: trip to the Packers
3. Buffalo Bills (6-2) +2
After 8 weeks of competition, the Bills alone have as many victories as their three division rivals.
Week 9: Miami reception
4. Green Bay Packers (6-2) +2
Malik Willis is now 4-0. Even without Jordan Love, it will not be easy to find these Packers.
Week 9: reception of the Lions
5. Houston Texans (6-2) +2
After Nico Collins, it’s Stefon Diggs’ turn to be seriously injured. CJ Stroud will have to do without his two star receivers. If the division already seems certain to them, these absences risk costing them dearly when the playoffs arrive.
Week 9: trip to the Jets
6. Washington Commanders (6-2) +2
In front for almost the entire match, Washington almost paid for its ineffectiveness. The Commanders were saved by a miracle.
Week 9: trip to the Giants
7. Baltimore Ravens (5-3) -4
Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry cannot hide the limitations of Baltimore’s defense every week.
Week 9: Broncos reception
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) +1
In a long undecided match, the Steelers can thank Calvin Austin.
Week 9: bye week
9. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) -5
The specter of the 2016 season is increasingly present in Minnesota. The loss of Darrisaw is going to hurt a lot and Sam Darnold is going to have to learn to let go of the ball quicker.
Week 9: receiving the Colts
10. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) +1
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles confirm their return to form against the Bengals.
Week 9: Jaguars reception
11. San Francisco 49ers (4-4) +1
The 49ers’ ability to consistently find a productive runner is impressive. Deprived of McCaffrey and with a diminished Jordan Mason, Kyle Shanahan gives the ball 14 times to young Isaac Guerendo. The rookie did well with 85 yards and 1 touchdown.
Week 9: bye week
12. Atlanta Falcons (5-3) +2
During these two confrontations against Tampa Bay, Kirk Cousins threw 4 touchdowns each time. He likes that.
Week 9: Cowboys reception
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3) -3
Deprived of Goodwin and Evans, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers held on but lost a second time this season against the Falcons.
Week 9: trip to the Chiefs
14. Seattle Seahawks (4-4) -1
Already Seattle’s third defeat at home. Against Buffalo, the Seahawks played backwards.
Week 9: Rams reception
15. Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) +3
Deprived of Keenan Allen, who left for Chicago, Justin Herbert may have found himself a new best friend last sunday.
Week 9: trip to the Browns
16. Denver Broncos (5-3) +3
Bo Nix took advantage of the opponent to release his best career performance and the Broncos continue to believe in a longer season than expected.
Week 9: trip to the Ravens
17. Chicago Bears (4-3) -1
Tyrique Stevenson would have done better to stay focused until the end.
Week 9: trip to the Cardinals
18. Arizona Cardinals (4-4) +3
The four teams that beat the Cardinals all have 6 wins. Arizona only loses against the very big franchises this season.
Week 9: Bears reception
19. Dallas Cowboys (3-4) -4
If even on the road they lose, it will become very complicated for the Cowboys. In his last three outings, Dak Prescott has been intercepted twice each time.
Week 9: trip to the Falcons
20. Los Angeles Rams (3-4) +4
It becomes much easier for Stafford when he can count on Kupp and Nacua. The Rams are just one win away from first place in their division.
Week 9: trip to the Seahawks
21. Indianapolis Colts (4-4) -1
Anthony Richardson only completed 31.3% of his passes against Houston. The young quarterback shows no signs of progress and will pay the consequences next Sunday.
Week 9: trip to the Vikings
22. Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) -5
The Bengals’ three wins are against the Panthers, Browns and Giants. As soon as the level rises Cincinnati cannot keep up. It wasn’t just a failed start to the season, this team just doesn’t have the level to go to the playoffs.
Week 9: Raiders reception
23. Cleveland Browns (2-6) +6
Jameis Winston showed in one match that he should have been starting for a month and a half. He won’t have the chance every week to see defenders refuse his offerings, but at least he’s by far the most fun quarterback in Cleveland.
Week 9: Chargers reception
24. New Orleans Saints (2-6) -2
Nothing is going well in New Orleans. Spencer Rattler played the first half, Jake Haener the second and neither managed to find the end zone. Good news for the Saints, Derek Carr could play on Sunday and the Panthers are their next opponents.
Week 9: trip to the Panthers
25. New York Jets (2-6) -2
They did the right thing by firing Robert Saleh. Things have been a lot better for the Jets since he left.
Week 9: reception of the Texans
26. New York Giants (2-6) -1
It’s almost Halloween! In New York, children dress up as Daniel Jones to scare their neighbors.
Week 9: receiving Commanders
27. Miami Dolphins (2-5) -1
The return of Tagovailoa has given color to the Florida attack. It just wasn’t enough against the valiant Cardinals. Luckily for the Dolphins, we found more failed than their season in Miami.
Week 9: trip to the Bills
28. Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) -1
Las Vegas ran 21 times against Kansas City, for a gain of 33 yards, an average of 1.6 yards per carry. Now that they are strong on the tight end position, the Raiders will have to seriously look at runners in the next draft.
Week 9: trip to the Bengals
29. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) -1
Two turnovers for Trevor Lawrence which resulted in two touchdowns for the Packers, in a match played at three points. The former Clemson quarterback gives the impression of no longer progressing.
Week 9: trip to the Eagles
30. New England Patriots (2-6) +1
Quickly deprived of Drake Maye, who went out with a concussion, the Patriots were able to count on Jacoby Brissett and a perfect last possession to get a second victory this season.
Week 9: trip to the Titans
31. Tennessee Titans (1-6) -1
Facing the Lions in full swing, the step was far too high for the Titans.
Week 9: Patriots reception
32. Carolina Panthers (1-7)
Back, Bryce Young will have made an illusion on one possession, before resuming the mission first choice in the 2025 draft.
Week 9: receiving the Saints
