From the lull in entertainment that the pandemic brought, many topics of debate have come to light, one of them is the racismSince physical appearance is one of the main causes of discrimination in our country, that is why many movements have emerged to end stereotypes, including the entertainment industry.
Actors and actresses like Tenoch Huerta, Maya Zapata, Yalitza Aparicio, Ianis Guerrero and Horacio García-Rojas have been part of the initiative Black power and discrimination by skin color has been pronounced before.
Yesterday the first festival was launched Black Power, a choral voice with workshops, conferences, exhibitions, music and art with the idea of eliminating discrimination, opening conversations and questioning the different treatments between Mexican people.
Actresses Sisaí Rodsan, Maya Zapata, actor and producer Horacio García-Rojas, José Aquiles from Racismo MX, Vanessa Bohórquez, Secretary of Culture and Deputy Indalí Pardillo were present at the festival presentation to publicize how they work in together with the government to make everyone’s voice visible.
“We demand to be treated the way we deserve. We are calling on those who want to get on with us, the government, institutions so that we can finally eliminate this battery of colors and flags because we would love to be in other incredible places ”, highlighted Horacio García-Rojas.
The question that is asked to make the problem visible is:how many series and movies are starred by dark-skinned people in a positive way? And the answer is that they are counted, that is why there is a lot of concern about raising our voice jointly, so as not to leave it to an individual matter, because it can be lost in a vacuum, ”when many others see this problem and we begin to do it in set, gives more strength; We have been doing this for about six months, it happened in the pandemic when the mind was thinking about all the problems of understanding that this is the necessary moment to get together ”, explained the actor.
White tv
Black Power It is not the first movement of public figures who seek to create awareness among society, and seek to highlight the rights of each of the individuals that is part of this initiative and with them pull people who want to be part of it regardless of whether they are from the middle or not.
“The theme of racism is the hardest topic to tackle in the industry, as we know from our television has been represented with white people for almost a centuryor, even indigenous people were represented by white people, those with brown skin are used to talk about issues of service violence and these are the ideas that we have that are around the complexion. The idea is to change little by little, not only in this area but also in other sectors and thus be able to reach more, it is not easy but public policies are made so that one day they will cease to be necessary, “said Maya Zapata.
Indalí Pardillo Cadena, deputy for the 21st District of Iztapalapa in the Morena Parliamentary Group, seeks to generate conversation within Congress to generate agreements and create initiatives against racism.
“I am given the task of making the issue visible because there is a lot of denial within the Congress, when I propose a law that talks about racism, nobody pays attention, they start talking, we talk about dogs, animals and there, yes, all the The world is attentive, how is it possible that for an issue that is also important to us, the same conscience does not exist ”, said Indalí.
