Power prices, Power | Now the price of electricity is skyrocketing – peak price of two kroner per kWh

(The online newspaper) We have put behind us several months with electricity prices so low that no one thought about them anymore. Instead, many have experienced that internet rent is becoming many times as expensive as electricity itself.

But now the electricity prices are again going to rise, sometimes significantly, throughout southern Norway.

On Friday, the stage is set for price jumps in both the morning and early afternoon.

Electricity prices in southern and eastern Norway are a maximum of two kroner per kWh.

In northern Norway, on the other hand, the price of electricity remains at a stable level.

Hydropower producers have gained control

According to Tor Reier Lilleholt in Volue, the reason for the strong price increase in Eastern Norway can be found:

– It would be better for us in the eastern part of the country, for many weeks we have had a situation where we lost water because it cleared. Now they have gained more control and the magazines are being emptied again. Then you take a closer look at what the price will be in the winter, says the head of analysis.

– In addition, there is very little wind in the forecasts, he says.

In Europe, prices are affected by the fact that power plants have to be started for short periods in the morning and evening, just before and after the solar power disappears. Gas prices have gone up a bit recently as well.

It is clear that this does not mean that the price peaks we are seeing now are the average price this summer.

– We assume that the average price will be 70-80 years (plus VAT), but with large variations when there is wind and when there is no wind.

The price peaks will also be high this winter, but he says it will only be for a few hours now.

The power support is still starting

It is worth pointing out that the electricity subsidy is still starting and covers 90 percent of the electricity price above 91.25 øre including VAT.

It is not certain whether it will be the standard in the future. On Monday, the government will present the state budget for 2025. In last year’s budget, the entry level was increased, and that it was natural to increase according to the price increase.
