AMARILLO, Texas (KEYU) – As the holidays approach, local police are seeing an increase in porch pirates stealing packages from homes across Amarillo.
To avoid this, the Potter County Sheriff’s Office offers your address as a safe drop off location.
All packages will be held in a waiting room at the Sheriff’s Office until picked up.
“All we want to do is be a holding center. “So the carrier leaves it here, we put it in the box, we register it, we say, ‘Yes, that’s my package,’ and they have the name , the driver’s license matches that, then we ask them to sign that they are. yes,” said Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas. “They can come after hours or business hours or on the weekend, so it’s closed. “It’s a good way that your packages aren’t on your porch.”
If you wish to use this service when ordering packages, please keep your name on the package, but send to 13103 NE 29th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79111.
To collect your packages between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, you can register for them at the main window.
If you go after 4pm or on the weekend, please call dispatch at 806-379-2900 to let them know you are there to pick up packages.
ID is required to pick up packages.
