Potomac homes affected by severe thunderstorm

Several Potomac homes Montgomery County firefighters and emergency medical services reported that a power surge occurred Monday night, likely caused by a lightning strike. WJLA.

The incident occurred just after authorities issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Montgomery, Fairfax and Loudoun counties.

Emergency crews responded to Nantucket Terrace near Falls Road at about 5:30 p.m. After receiving reports of smoke coming from a single-family home, they arrived to find several homes with electrical issues and smoke, but did not see any active fires.

Montgomery County firefighters suspected that lightning had struck a home, causing power outages throughout the neighborhood. At two separate locations, Electric meters were burned, requiring immediate intervention by Pepco.
