Pothen Esshes: The platform opens – The changes, the 8 steps to filling –

Today, Monday, November 4, 2024, the electronic platform opens for the submission of the 2023 Asset Status Declarations (Pothen Esches) by debtors, regarding the picture of their assets in 2022. On November 18, the platform for the declarations is expected to open of 2024, concerning the asset picture of 2023. On the same date, the platform will also be opened for certain categories of debtors, such as the initial Declarations of Asset Status of those who became obliged to declare from February 28, 2023 to September 30, 2024.

Major changes

This year, the platform will include significant changes compared to previous years. The most distinctive difference, according to the plan, is that all elements of taxpayers’ wealth — income, real estate, deposits, investment products — will be able to be drawn automatically. The taxpayer will simply confirm their correctness.

Greater transparency

This practically implies greater transparency, as the possibility of concealing income or assets is reduced. Also, the inconvenience of citizens from the collection of information, especially by banks, is limited. The competent agencies believe that this new initiative will bring significant improvements to the declaration submission process, enhancing the transparency and efficiency of the tax administration.

How the process for Pothen Esches will be conducted

One of the most important new elements that will make it easier for debtors is the automatic incorporation of key assets.

In particular, it will be possible to automatically extract and integrate data such as bank deposits, income, real estate and other assets. This will make the process of filling out the declarations simpler, faster and less burdensome for citizens.

According to the joint ministerial decision signed by the ministers George Floridis, Dimitris Papastergiou, Christos Dimas and the commander of AADE, George Pitsilisthe personal and tax information of the obligees will be automatically drawn from the tax register when submitting the declaration. This automatic process will include information such as the TIN, identity details, address, telephone numbers and email of the registrants, thus reducing the time and effort required to complete the process.

The interface with AADE

The innovation is not only limited to simplifying the process, as other elements such as incomes, bank accounts, vehicles, boats, shareholdings and loans will be transferred automatically through the platform’s interface with the AADE, the Registry of Vehicles of the Ministry of Infrastructure and GEMI. This combination of information will provide a comprehensive picture of the declarant’s financial situation, further facilitating the assessment of his financial situation.

The new process for Pothen Esches includes the following steps:

1. Submission platform: The submission will be made through the www.pothen.gr platform, where notaries will already be able to submit copies of notarial documents. This addition will speed up the process and facilitate communication between notaries and the tax authority.

2. Electronic filing of notarial documents: Notaries are required to electronically file each notarial document within 15 days of its signature. This obligation will ensure speed and accuracy in the process of gathering the necessary data.

3. Personal login codes: Obligees will enter the platform with their personal TAXIS codes to submit the declaration, ensuring the security and protection of their personal data.

4. Automatic display of details: Personal and tax details will be displayed automatically as they are entered in the tax register, providing the possibility for taxpayers to correct any mistakes before submitting the return.

5. Automatic asset transfer: Assets will be automatically transferred, including income, property, bank accounts, vehicles and loans over €5,000. This feature is expected to reduce the chance of errors and save time during the submission process.

6. Possibility of correction: Obligees will have the possibility to check and correct their data before finalizing the declaration, by adding or deleting entries and attaching the necessary supporting documents.

7. Electronic submission of necessary documents: In mandatorily audited declarations, the necessary documents will be attached electronically, unless they have been transferred automatically. Obligors will attach new information only in cases of change in their property status.

8. Amending declarations: As long as the declaration has been finalized on time, the debtor is allowed to submit an amending declaration within 30 days from the end of the submission deadline.

What the new process offers

According to sources from the relevant ministries, the new procedure is expected to significantly facilitate the debtors, limiting errors and omissions, while it will enhance transparency and efficiency in controls. In addition, it is noted that automatic data extraction and the ability to correct data ensure the correctness of statements, improving the process of submitting and checking Pothen Esse statements.
