Prices for flagship video cards may rise in Russia by another 15%, although over the past three months they have already noticeably increased in price due to some shortages and rising exchange rates, reported “Izvestia” market participants. This time, the growth will be caused by a potential US ban on the import of the GeForce RTX 4090 video card to China and a number of other countries that served as a source of parallel import cards for Russia.

Let us recall that last month the United States imposed new restrictions on the supply of graphics accelerators with high computing performance to China and a number of other countries. In addition to computing accelerators, the consumer GeForce RTX 4090 was also included in the list. Later, information appeared that the GeForce RTX 4090 had disappeared from the sanctions lists. However, there is still no certainty as to whether the flagship video card will fall under sanctions. But suppliers from China are already rushing to accumulate stocks of these adapters.
The upcoming price increase is beyond doubt among almost all the experts interviewed by Izvestia; opinions differ only in how large-scale it will be. If, according to TelcomDaily CEO Denis Kuskov, prices for graphics adapters will jump by 10%, then Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin believes that the price increase for the RTX 4090 will not exceed 7%. On the other hand, a number of resource sources believe that the cost of the flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 video card may increase by 10–15% by the end of the year.
The situation with GeForce RTX 4090 adapters may lead to higher prices for other accelerator models, says 3DNews.ru editor Sergei Plotnikov. The disappearance of flagship chips from NVIDIA from sale will cause an increase in prices for cheaper analogues, such as the GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4080. It is quite possible that video cards from AMD will also increase in price, the expert believes. Let us add that NVIDIA may release at the beginning of 2024 a GeForce RTX 4090 close to the GeForce RTX 4090, but no longer subject to sanctions, the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti.
A potential ban on supplies of the RTX 4090 provoked an increase in prices, but they were rising for the flagship video card before that. According to the DNS company, the Gigabyte version of the accelerator cost 167 thousand rubles in early August, and now its price has soared to 201 thousand rubles. “In early October, for the most productive version of a gaming PC, we recommended the GeForce RTX 4090 in one of the online stores for 189 thousand rubles. Now, looking at the catalog of this trading platform, you can see that various versions of the GeForce RTX 4090 cost from 307 thousand rubles – thus, in just a month they immediately soared by 27%,” – said Sergey Plotnikov.
According to the expert, the increase in prices was influenced by the ban on the import of a number of graphics accelerators necessary for complex calculations. If recently the GeForce RTX 4090 in China cost from 13 thousand yuan, now they are asking for it from 26 thousand yuan.
