NEW YORK – Not only is the tri-state area in for another day of extreme heat, but it will also be at risk of severe storms on Saturday.
The heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. for New Jersey City with temperatures around 90 and record heat near 100.
And just when the heat advisory ends, that’s when the game is scheduled to start. at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey between Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, storms could be a headache for fans who travel to East Rutherford to watch the great classic. It is not known at this time if the weather will affect the game.
Storms will begin to re-emerge in the afternoon with the potential for isolated severe weather – heavy rain and damaging winds again possible (although we are not expected to see as much coverage/intensity). A severe storm watch for New York is in effect until 9 p.m.
Check the latest weather warnings for your neighborhood here.
Conditions are expected to repeat on Saturday and possibly Sunday as well, with flooding and damaging winds still minor threats from afternoon and evening storms.
Like Friday, Saturday’s storms will be concentrated in the afternoon and evening. They can also cause damaging winds and isolated flooding.
On Sunday, we will continue with the trend of warm, humid and stormy weather, but the intensity level will be lower. Temperatures will drop slightly and the risk of severe storms will be lower. However, keep an eye on the sky and prepare for a “B” plan if you find yourself in a storm moving through your neighborhood on Sunday afternoon or evening.
Rainfall totals over the weekend should total an inch or two across the western half of our area, with most seeing between half an inch and an inch. In areas with the heaviest pockets of rain, totals could be closer to the 2 to 3 inch range, or even more locally.
Temperatures will finally drop late next week and may even remain slightly below normal.
