EL NUEVO DIARIO, NEW YORK.- In the coming days we could find out who will be the new manager of the Mets. It seems that he will come from two alternatives: Craig Counsell and the Venezuelan Carlos Mendoza.
SNY’s Andy Martino reported that some expect Counsell to choose between the Mets, Guardians or Brewers in a few days. If Counsell decides not to take the reins in New York, the club would turn its attention to Mendoza, who “has emerged as a very strong candidate,” according to Martino.
Mendoza, who is the Yankees’ bench coach, also interviewed for the manager job with Cleveland and the Giants. He is also scheduled to meet with the Padres, who have a managerial vacancy following Bob Melvin’s departure to San Francisco.
Martino added: “The only situation that would likely delay the Mets’ process until after next week would be if both Counsell and Mendoza are signed by other teams.”
