Potassium iodide tablets will be distributed free of charge to the population / The time for their distribution may be two to three weeks, but only after a clear public information

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, announced that the distribution of potassium iodide pills to the population could take two to three weeks, but mentioning that this will be done only after a very clear information of the citizens, Agerpres reports.

“We have to evaluate (the period in which the pills will be distributed – no.), Because we are not talking about 100,000 or one million people who should receive these pills, we are talking about several million families and the time allocated to this distribution must be corresponding to the possibility of distributing them. We have about 10,000 family doctors in Romania, there are 16 million people on the lists of these family doctors and obviously an interval of two or three weeks is needed, probably so that they can call all their patients in turn. and to be able to distribute these pills to them “, Rafila stated on Saturday, during a press conference at Victoria Palace.

He said that this will be done only after a very clear information of the population.

“It simply came to our notice then. (…) The Government will certainly help us to have a public information campaign on how to use and store these pills, which is very likely not to be used in the next period, but we must, as responsible people. , to provide the population with access to this product for free “, added Rafila.

The minister mentioned that the potassium iodide pills will be provided free of charge, because it is a public health problem.

The Iasi Antibiotic Factory produced 30 million tablets with potassium iodide. The vast majority of them have already been distributed to the warehouses of the public health departments in the country, and will be offered free of charge to the population only in crisis situations caused by a nuclear incident.

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, announced on Thursday, after a visit to the Antibiotice Iaşi factory, that there are four counties left in which the potassium iodide pills must be distributed.
