Ukrainian rapper Potap on February 17 on his Instagram page and his new YouTube channel called Rotar presented video for a song dedicated to Ukrainian volunteers.
“Come on, dance, little one. She did not sleep for two nights. And she was not at home. Oh, mother, don’t ask who she was with and where she spent the night. I was with boys, soldiers. I volunteered” – the artist sings in the first verse.
In the last couplet of the song, the words sound: “Play banduras about father Bandera. Volunteers dance, and coolies-fools fly past us in enemy helicopters. We collected millions for our people, although we are not millionaires. We are simple people. And this is our power.” .
As a video sequence, the video uses archival footage, which depicts volunteers of the Ukrainian Dobrobat project during the removal of rubble from buildings destroyed by Russian occupiers.
Song caused criticism from both volunteers and listeners.
“It’s a shame for the volunteers. These are people who deserve respect, not such songs. Potap is horror,” – commented Potap’s song dedicated to volunteers online.
“Thank you, you helped me get back on my feet with this song. I was lying unconscious, but when this song started playing, I came to myself to turn off this shit,” – wrote in comments.
“Dancing volunteers? The girl who volunteered with the fighters at night? Potapuilo. What else can I say?” – got indignant on Facebook, the founder of the volunteer movement “Nebaiduzhe” Alyona Shmiga.
Ukrainian poetess Tatyana Vlasova said that Potap’s new track will never become the anthem of the volunteers, and stressed that it is “just a bad song with strange lyrics and a claim to be viral.”
“In fact, Potap’s song was needed so that we would understand: we are on the right track. We distinguish the beautiful from the bad taste. And we tell the bad taste that it’s bad, even if it is made in Ukrainian and veiled with patriotic intentions,” wrote on Facebook Ukrainian poetess Tatiana Vlasova. “The song is an absolute failure.”
Five days before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation Potap left Ukraine with his wife, Ukrainian singer Nastya Kamensky. They went to Spain.
In September 2022, it became known that Potap had also returned to Ukraine.
