The much-discussed new records system Helseplattformen, which was to be put into use in Helse Midt-Norge, has now been postponed.

According to Address newspaper the new records system is being postponed for around a year for the hospitals in Møre and Romsdal, while the hospitals in Nord-Trøndelag are to be connected to it in November this year.
It was decided at a board meeting in Helse Midt-Norge this afternoon, and is in line with the proposal.
However, St. Olav’s hospital has been using the system since November, but has struggled with errors in medication lists, electronic messages that do not arrive and cumbersome solutions.
This is the Health Platform:
- A common digital platform for the entire health service in central Norway with the aim of increasing patient safety and having better information flow.
- Among other things, there will be a digital system for joint patient records for hospitals, municipalities, GPs and contract specialists in central Norway.
Will be more expensive
The board of Helse Midt has acknowledged that the postponement will lead to increased costs, and that there is great uncertainty about how much money is involved.
The additional costs associated with today’s postponement are estimated to be NOK 343 million, according to Helseplattformen AS published in the case file for Thursday’s meeting.
Open supervision after serious warnings
The Norwegian Health Authority has opened an inspection following notifications of several serious errors the hospital has not been able to rule out as being due to the new system.
Just over a week ago, the state administrator in Trøndelag had received 64 notifications about the new digital system, five of which were described as serious.
In one of the cases, a referral for further cancer investigation from St. Olav’s Hospital to Oslo University Hospital only came after four weeks. In another case, it took just as long before a referral was made to the cancer outpatient clinic at St. Olav’s hospital.
