Because of the Covid-19, many surgical operations, planned at the Bourges hospital, have been deprogrammed to free up staff to counter the second wave of the epidemic in other departments of the hospital.
Today, reprogramming is underway at Bourges hospital, “even if we are still in the second wave”. “We currently have four rooms open for operations and we are reprogramming operations as we go,” explains Bénédicte Soilly-Loiseau, deputy director of the Bourges hospital center. Not wishing to deliver the number of delayed operations, which are each “different in complexity and duration”, officials explain that activity is gradually returning to normal.

“In a collegial manner, the block actors meet every Thursday in the operating theater programming cell to discuss together which patient should be prioritized,” explains Doctor Isabelle Meyer, head of the Emergency-Samu, resuscitation, operating theaters, anesthesia pole. . But there is no particular delay since everything that needed to be operated on urgently has already been done and what is pending are not vital emergencies. “
“No loss of opportunity”
The hospital kept between two and three operating theaters, one dedicated to oncology and the others to emergencies, during this second wave. “The establishment has provided for all emergencies, whether vital or surgical, adds Bénédicte Soilly-Loiseau. There was no loss of opportunity for the patients. “
The reprogramming therefore continues over time at the Bourges hospital. “We plan to open more operating rooms, announces Dr. Meyer, but we do not have visibility on the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic so we will adapt. “
The team takes the opportunity to remind that patients should not deprogram themselves, without being invited. “It is a loss of opportunity for them, but also a place which is free which will not be reallocated for another patient who must be operated”, concludes the deputy director.
