Postpone the report on the origin of the coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) is likely to postpone until next week the release of the much-anticipated report on the origin of the new coronavirus, its spokeswoman was quoted as saying by the Associated Press today.

A WHO expert team visited the central Chinese city of Wuhan earlier this year, where the virus was first detected in late 2019. It was expected to publish its report this week.

Today, however, WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier said the report was “simply not ready”. Experts working on the document with representatives of the Chinese authorities “want to get things right,” he told reporters.

Earlier, the WHO has abandoned plans to publish a first summary of the report, followed by a longer version. Instead, the UN health agency decided to publish the full report directly.

Brussels has called on EU countries to use every dose of vaccine received

We call on EU countries to use all doses of covid vaccines they have. This was stated today by EU Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakidis after a meeting of the EU Council.

She added that states have the right to suspend the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precautionary measure until the opinion of the European Medicines Agency is announced. Safety cannot be compromised, the commissioner said.

The distribution of vaccines from the very beginning is by share, according to the population, unless countries give up the amounts they are entitled to, Kyriakidis explained. She added that the epidemic situation in some EU countries is particularly worrying.
