PostNord, Transport | Races over Postnord salaries:

Johan Nyström had to close down his own transport company due to too low wages from Postnord.

– When they steal money from truck companies in this way, it is in my eyes pure crime. I do not understand how they manage to sleep at night, Nyström says Free Trade Union Movement.

FriFagbevegelse has over time followed several business owners, who perform or have performed transport on behalf of Postnord.

Nyström is one of them, and he had to wind up driving for Norway’s largest logistics company due to declining profitability. FriFagbevegelse writes that Postnord pays so poorly that many truck companies struggle to provide drivers with statutory pay and working conditions. The rules are broken to make ends meet.

According to Nystrøm, the Logistics Company paid him 12.50 per kilometer, and he had a daily mileage of between 300 and 400 kilometers.

– The rate of 12.50 was low already in 2018. Now in 2021, with a sharp increase in fuel costs and other costs, it is completely impossible to live on, Nyström tells the newspaper.

After all fixed costs had been paid, he was usually left with a monthly salary of 15,000 kroner. Divided into what he estimates is 278 working hours, this means an hourly wage of NOK 54 on average per month.

Through whistleblowers, FriFagbevegelse must have gained access to Postnord’s internal price tariffs and settlements that confirm the level of the rates at which Johan Nystrøm and other carriers operate.

Øyvind Solberg, Postnord’s assistant director for the party, states to FriFagbevegelse that no one drives at rates of 12.50 per kilometer. He says that Postnord does not recognize the figures, and that they are too low for profitable operations to be created.

– If we had driven someone on 3–400 kilometers a day at that price, they would not have been in the market. Then they would have gone bankrupt, he says to FriFagbevegelse.

Postnord is said to have received several anonymous settlements and corresponding price tariffs from FriFagbevegelse. Press manager Haakon Nikolai Olsen in Postnord replies that it is wrong to take a simple example and then generalize. He says that they are dependent on attracting suppliers in a growing market, and that the agreements ensure wages for drivers that are in accordance with the Norwegian wage level.
