PostNL will no longer leave notes from 1 July if a parcel deliverer has stood in front of a closed door. That writes Het Laatste Nieuws on Saturday. PostNL clarifies that the measure will be introduced in the Netherlands, but that the notes will continue to exist in Belgium for the time being.

Anyone who was not at home when the PostNL courier rings the bell will soon receive an e-mail or a notification via the app of the Dutch company. By no longer leaving notes, the company says it can save 70,000 kilos of paper per year. The company also expects to save time. In about 9 percent of the cases, the recipient is not at home.

In Belgium, the couriers will continue to work with the notes for the time being, says a PostNL spokesperson. The reason is that the PostNL app is not yet used in Belgium, although it is being worked on. “Consumers for whom we have an email address in Belgium will also receive an email with information about their package in addition to the note. It is sent in Dutch and French,” the spokesperson explains.
