PostNL is cutting 200 to 300 full-time jobs this year to reduce costs. Other measures are also being taken to cut costs, the company reports.

“The year 2022 became a year in which we had to navigate in rapidly changing and turbulent circumstances,” CEO Herna Verhagen explains the step.

The record high inflation and consumer confidence that reached a low point had an effect on the results of the postal company, according to Verhagen. “The challenging conditions are expected to continue into 2023. It is therefore crucial that we continue to invest in strengthening our foundation and strengthening our position in a dynamic and highly competitive market.”

This year, a total of 20 million euros must be saved. The cuts mainly affect the parcel department, according to PostNL. That is why 200 to 300 jobs will disappear in that department.

In the coming years, the postal company must cut even more, in its own words to resume the “growth trajectory”. In 2024 it will be another 25 million euros and from 2025 up to 30 million euros every year.

Fewer packages

PostNL will announce the full results for the past year later today. In the third quarter of 2022, the company struggled. Due to the rising prices, less was bought and companies also sent fewer packages. Due to rising energy prices, PostNL also has to allocate more money to run vans and trucks.
