From January 1, a PostNL stamp will cost 1.09 euros. That is an increase of almost 8 percent. According to the company, this increase is necessary to cover rising costs.
A stamp now costs 1.01 euros. “The volume of mail continues to decline,” says Bob van Ireland, director at PostNL. “Even though there is less mail, we still empty around eleven thousand street mailboxes every working day and we still walk and cycle through every street in the Netherlands every day.”
The shipping of online franked packages continues to cost 6.95 euros. But the price for postage at a PostNL point increases from 7.65 euros to 7.95 euros. The basic rate for sending letters abroad will increase from 1.65 euros to 1.75 euros.
Anyone who wants to send mail with the cheaper December stamp during the holidays will pay 1 euro more per sheet this year. Twenty stamps cost 19.20 euros. That amounts to 96 cents per stamp.
Since 2010, Dutch stamps have had a numerical value of 1 or 2. You can continue to use the old stamps. You do not have to add any stamps. This is necessary if you have an older stamp with a monetary value.
